The Making of Music

on BBC Radio 3

1/30. The Shock of the Future. Fiona Talkington introduces performances of music mentioned by James Naughtie in his second series for Radio 4 that charts the history of classical music and the events that influenced it. As nationalism swept Europe, composers were split between those who looked to the past for inspiration, like Brahms, and those, like
Liszt and Wagner, who looked to the future. Including piano music by Schumann, and Liszt's Tasso.
