Trooping the Colour

on BBC One London

Live coverage from Horse Guards Parade, London, as Her Majesty the Queen takes the salute on the occasion of her official birthday. David Dimbleby describes the scene, as more than 1,000 guardsmen and officers of the Household Division parade before their Sovereign and Colonel-in-Chief. Her
Majesty is accompanied by HRH the Duke of Edinburgh, Colonel
Grenadier Guards; HRH the Prince of Wales,
Colonel Welsh Guards; HRH the Duke of Kent, Colonel Scots Guards;
HRH the Grand Duke of Luxembourg, Colonel
Irish Guards. This year, the Queen's Colour of the 2nd Battalion Grenadier Guards is being trooped on the parade, which, by tradition, is in five parts:
The Inspection of the Line The eight Guards and Sovereign's Escort of the Household Cavalry are inspected by the Queen;
The Troop
By the Massed Bands and Corps of Drums of the Guards Division;
Trooping the Colour through the Ranks;
The March Past
By the Guards Division in slow and quick time;
The Rank Past
By the Household Cavalry at the walk and at the trot.
