Rivers
A series of five programmes 4: The Singapore River
At three miles long, the Singapore River can hardly be called one of the world's mightiest! Yet this colourful and crowded stretch of water has been Singapore's heart since the days when her banks sheltered exotic eastern vessels sailing in on the trade winds with opium, silk and spices.
Peter Purves explores the Singapore River and meets the people who are part of its life today. He discovers how the river's history has shaped that of Singapore itself - the ' Crossroads of Asia'.
