With Richard Baker.
Water is the predominant feature of the gardens of the Villa d'Este at Tivoli, near Rome. The gardens were the creation of a worldly 16th-century cardinal, who astounded visitors with his collection of fountains. Liszt was only one of a number of musicians who found inspiration in these water sculptures.
Music includes:
Josquin Desprez Missa Hercules Dux Ferrariae - Hilliard Ensemble
Palestrina Dum Complerentur - Taverner Consort
Handel Hercules - Monteverdi Choir, English Baroque Soloists, conductor John Eliot Gardiner
Liszt Aux Cypres de la Villa d'Este II (Annees de Pelerinage) - Leslie Howard (piano)
