A novel by John P. Marquand adapted as a serial in twelve parts by H. Oldfield Box
6 — Careful how you stir them, George
Other parts played by Brian Haines and members of the BBC Drama Repertory Company
Produced by Wilfrid Grantham
Jeffrey Wilson , a successlul play-doctor, is married to a woman with whom he has little in common. His main affections are centred on Jim, the eldest of his three children. But Jim is of military age; and the war situation has brought to a head all Jeffrey's personal anxieties and dissatisfactions.
At Fred and Beckie's pretentious old farm house in Connecticut, where he and his wife Madge have gone for a weekend party, Jeffrey is appalled by the contrast between its frills and showiness and the stark realities of the world situation. He has sought a momentary escape by slipping out into the moonlit garden; and there Marianna Miller , the young actress who has so long been his friend, has joined him.
