To celebrate the bicentenary of Donizetti's birth, Gordon Stewart introduces a performance given last week at the Royal Festival Hall, London, by the Royal Opera. The work tells of a daughter's journey on foot from Siberia to Moscow to win her father's release from unjust exile. Sung in Italian.
