JOHN OSBORNE SEASON The Entertainer

on BBC Radio 4 FM

The last play in the season is a vintage production from the archives with Donald Wolfit as Archie Rice , a seedy third-rate comic in a tatty twice-nightly seaside show. Set in the 50s and first produced on stage in 1957, the tragedy of Archie Rice mirrors not only a dying music hall, but a dying era.
