Night Waves

on BBC Radio 3

On a gusty March day in 1016 a battle took place in Wiheal, Northumbria, that was to set in motion one of the bloodiest eras in English history. Richard Coles talks to Richard Fletcher , author of Bloodfeud: Murder and Revenge in Anglo-Saxon England, about the events when
King Canute had Earl Uhtred slaughtered, throwing England into turmoil and leading to nearly 60 years of feuding that at times left the country ungoverned. Also, the verdict on A/i-Michael Mann's much anticipated biopic about Muhammad Ali with Will Smith in the lead role.
