The 30s: Russia in the 30s

In the 1930s Russia was ruled by fear, and for most people the top priority was survival. David Fanning looks at some of the survival tactics of composers at the time, including Shostakovich and Prokofiev, and plays a variety of music composed in the name of Socialist Realism.
