Two hundred years ago, on 16 December 1775, JANE AUSTEN was born. She was a clergyman's daughter, lived an outwardly quiet life in the country and in Bath, never married, and died at the age of 41. Her six novels, of which the best known is Pride and Prejudice, are all classics.
Tonight's programme celebrates her birth with Celia Johnson , Edward Fox who read from her work at the Cheltenham Festival of Literature Mary McCarthy, Germaine Greer Arianna Stassinopoulos who talk about their enjoyment of Jane Austen and including film of festivities during the City of Bath Jane Austen Bi-centenary Celebration Week.
