The Mahogany Connections
Your mahogany kitchen seems a long way from the jungles of Brazil, the greenhouse effect and Coca Cola, but they are connected - like hamburgers, British banks and cars. Deep in the rainforest, a tiny mahogany seedling pushes towards the light. It should become a forest giant, a centre of exuberant life, but when we order that kitchen or buy corned beef at the supermarket, we order that tree's destruction. Narrated by Anthony Smith. (Rpr)
