* The Changing Face of Medicine

on BBC One London

The last of three programmes on medical research. Introduced by Professor Charles Fletcher This week: Prophecies
Tonight's programme is based on research in which medical authorities were asked to make responsible predictions: several eminent British surgeons and physicians project themselves 25 years ahead into the kind of situations they believe doctors will encounter.
Many of the more significant advances could affect your life-style: you'll not only be able to choose the sex of your child, but also the kind of child you want. Computers won't dictate your life, but they could make colossal invasions on your privacy. Your health could become a national liability and you'd be penalised for indulging in the occasional pint or cigarette.
