Nobody Cried When the Trains Pulled Out

on BBC Radio 2

Reminiscences of the 1939 evacuation presented by Michael Aspel.
Five decades ago the station platforms of Britain were crammed with bewildered children on their way to a new life in the countryside away from the bombing raids. Among them was the young Michael Aspel. Together with fellow evacuees Henry Cooper, Vince Hill, Derek Nimmo and others, he remembers what it was like to be an evacuee.
