Robots on an assembly line sing monotonous songs to each other, watched over by men who yesterday were peasants In paddy fields. Yesterday's wood carvers are producing cars. The people of the Pacific have encompassed an entire social and Industrial revolution in one generation. They have tumbled more times than Humpty Dumpty, spilt quitealotofbloodin the process, but, remarkably, put themselves together again. In the second of six programmes, Mary Goldring explains.
