Mrs. Dale, Mrs. Freeman, and Sally saw Gwen, David, and the children off to Wales. Mrs. Dale went to Raynes Park in order to speak to Elsie Freeman. Later in the week Elsie arrived unexpectedly at Virginia Lodge and Mrs. Date asked her to stay to supper. Mrs. Freeman was rather rude to Elsie. Dr. Dale told Ivor that he would not be able to stay after his training period was completed. Dr. Dale then found Ivor putting Jemima's kittens back in the cupboard under the stairs in the middle of the night, but took it all quite calmly.
