Top of the Pops

on BBC One London

A new look at Britain's best-sellers.
Discs-Stars-News from this week's Top Twenty.
Introduced tonight by Alan Freeman.

Top of the Pops at 7.30
Alan Freeman, the occupant of the jockey's saddle for this week's Top of the Pops, is a young man who is busily enjoying a long, long holiday. Once a budding accountant in his native Australia he left the ledgers to try his luck in commercial radio there, then dropped that too to take a short vacation in London. That was six years ago, and he is still here. His first 'holiday task' included odd television appearances and a stint as resident announcer for a commercial radio station, but after three years he landed the Dee Jay's job in the Light Programme's Pick of the Pops.
He is still holding down that job as well as his place on the rota for the television show.
