THE Canterbury Festival of Music and Drama was born of the urgent need for repairing the ancient fabric of the Cathedral. Dr. Bell, now Bishop of Chichester, then Dean of Canterbury, founded five years ago the society of the Friends of Canterbury Cathedral ; yearly the Festival increases in artistic importance and enables fresh renovation work to be undertaken.
