Spotlight on Beat
Light 8.0
The first of four entertaining documentaries about show business, grouped under the title Spotlight, deals tonight with Teen Beat - the music of the teenage idol.
John Powell conducted an enquiry into this ever-topical subject with the aid of comments from some of the idols themselves - Adam Faith, Elvis Presley, Cliff Richard, Tommy Steele, etc. - and from musicians, disc-jockeys, and many others who help to make or buy pop records.
To fill in the picture, Judith Chalmers will be on hand to play a number of records by star entertainers, including a preview of the new American rock 'n' roll musical Bye Bye Birdie. Judith, well known as a television announcer, will also introduce the other three programmes, which will deal with folk music, the American musical, and the story of jazz.
