Ice Dance

on BBC One London

Torvill and Dean were the inspiration for this love story on ice which was first screened during the 1989 World Figure Skating Championships in Paris.
Ice Dance follows a young Nottingham couple who, like Torvill and Dean, have a magical partnership on ice which gives the illusion they are lovers.
However, off-rink the pair are struggling with parental pressure and personal problems. Can they overcome these setbacks to emulate the success of their idols?
As writer Stephen Lowe told Radio Times at the time, the drama is "the opposite of all those old musicals, where conflict between the lovers ends with a triumphant first night on Broadway."
