The Monday Film: High Plains Drifter

on BBC One London

starring Clint Eastwood, Verna Bloom
Lago - a small frontier town in the American southwest. A mysterious and laconic stranger rides into town and within minutes has killed three men who provoke him into a fight. Terrified of the gunslinger, yet even more afraid of a gang who intend to wipe out the town, the townspeople beg the stranger to become Sheriff - little realising that this is just the start of their descent into hell.
Clint Eastwood 's second film as director is a taut revenge Western, in the style of the spaghetti Westerns that brought him to fame.
