Scene : A Gipsy Encampment-One Night
TWO half bell tents of canvas are in the shelter of the trees. Before the tents a red fire burns, over which, on a tripod, is suspended a pot, and on a log near the fire sits a woman of forty-five.
She has black hair, plaited and coiled into a crown.
Presently, after staring into the fire, she draws a gleaming knife and looks at it as it shines red in the firelight.
