999: Dramatic Stories of Real Life Rescues

on BBC One London

Michael Buerk presents some more real-life stories of extraordinary heroism and bravery demonstrated by the emergency services. A form of "enhanced documentary" they combine actual footage of the rescues with dramatic reconstructions by actors and some of the people involved.
Tonight's programme features a video recording of what happened when a 5-year-old boy toppled into a zoo's gorilla pit. As ambulance crews and a zoo keeper tried to save him, an eyewitness filmed the rescue bid. Plus a bizarre accident that left a motorist impaled on a 40ft scaffolding pole; and the fishing trip which put two men at the centre of a massive search and rescue operation.
And video reporter Fiona Foster takes another trip to the frontline of the rescue business.
