Afternoon Ragas

on BBC Radio 3

A recital of Indian music given by Imrat Khan (sitar)
Sankha Chatterjee (tabla)
Live studio performance before an invited audience
Recent broadcasts of Indian and Pakistani music have been greatly appreciated by listeners and have created a demand for more, both from the Indian and Pakistani populations in Britain and from British enthusiasts.
One of the artists especially requested is Imrat Khan, whose reputation is now almost as firmly established in Europe as it is in India. Khan comes from a family that has had a musical tradition for centuries, and his own art, distinguished by its purity, delicacy and imaginativeness, is founded on the strictest classical disciplines.
