Fathers and Sons

on BBC Radio 4 FM

by IVAN TURGENEV dramatised for radio by ATHENE FIELDING starring with ' As this is our last debate, I would like to pay tribute to Yevgeny Baza rov. We wait with bated breath for the impact of undoubtedly the most brilliant student of 1858, for the impact on Russia, or who knows, on the world! '
Bazarov is indeed brilliant. A ' nihilist he is deeply wedded to his belief in a new Russia where all will be equal. Yet he antagonises almost everyone he meets, despises his own parents for their dependence on him, causes great unhappiness in the household of his friend, Arkady, and suddenly falls victim to his own emotions when he meets a beautiful, wealthy widow.
With GORDON REID , NIGEL GREAVES , CHRISTOPHER SCOTT LIONEL BENTLEY (Violin)
STUART HUTCHINSON (piano) Directed by CHERRY COOKSON
iMary Wimbush is a National Theatre player)
