Isaac Bashevis Singer has lived and worked in New York for 50 years, but when he won literature's most distinguished international award in 1978, a Los Angeles newspaper announced 'Polish author wins Nobel Prize'. This Saturday he celebrates his 80th birthday.
Christopher Bigsby , Reader in American Studies at the University of East Anglia, visited him to talk about his life and work, and to consider his place in American literature.
