Miles Davis. Julian Joseph focuses on the last great comeback of trumpet innovator and band leader Miles Davis , who died in 1991. After a five-year break from playing, Davis returned in 1980 through the encouragement of saxophonist Bill Evans. It was Evans who introduced the trumpeter to bassist Marcus Miller and later guitarist John Scofield , who appeared on the 1983 album Star People. And in 1984 Davis recorded with a big band for the first time in over 20 years, working with Danish composer Palle Mikkelborg. Producer Felix Carey
