Tears of a Clown - the Story of Smokey Robinson

on BBC Radio 2

2/4. Lulu continues her profile of soul tenor and songwriter William "Smokey" Robinson, who until 1972 fronted Motown star quartet the Miracles. Smokey's songs co-written with Motown founder Berry Gordy produced many of the early Miracles hits, and then Smokey started writing with the other Miracles, including Pete Moore and guitarist Marv Tarplin, producing such classics as Ooo Baby Baby and The Tracks of My Tears. Smokey talks about his inspiration, with contributions from Berry Gordy, singer Angie Stone , songwriter Lamont Dozier, and ex-wife Claudette Robinson.
