Gil Evans. Julian Joseph focuses on the celebrated composer and arranger
Gil Evans , best known for his pioneering work with trumpeter Miles Davis. In 1987, less than a year before he died, Evans celebrated his 75th birthday by giving a concert at the Hammersmith Odeon in London. The orchestra included saxophonists Steve Lacy and John Surman , trumpeters Lew Soloff and Palle Mikkelborg and percussionist AirtoMoreira. Julian Jospeh introduces highlights of this concert and excerpts from an interview recorded in 1978. Producer Felix Carey
