This afternoon's performance of Haydn's Creation marks the hundredth anniversary of the first public concert given by the Huddersfield Choral Society. This Society, which is one of the most famous in Britain, was formed in 1836, when its personnel consisted of eight women and fifty-four men including the orchestra. The present membership of the choir alone is about three hundred singers, who come from offices, factories, shops, and ware-" houses to devote their spare time to the study and performance of great choral music.
