Relatively little is known about the kind of musical life that flourished in the far north during the Middle Ages, though the literary legacy both in Iceland and Scandinavia is rich enough in all conscience.
Dr Bergsagel examines some of the musical survivals that are to be found in isolated folk communities in Scandinavia and fills in the picture of both Icelandic and Scandinavian musical life before the Renaissance.
