Darius Milhaud (1892-1974)
I am a Frenchman from
Provence and by religion, a Jew.
Thus Milhaud began his autobiography. The folk culture of Provence and, to a lesser extent,
Judaism later proved to be substantial influences on his music, as also were Brazilian popular music and jazz.
