Deep in verdant Derby-shire countryside stands one of the most beautifully decorated country houses in England - Sudbury Hall. Built in the reign of Charles II, and formerly the seat of the Vernon family, it now belongs to the National Trust. Michael Oliver went there this summer and went over the house with its curator JOHN HODGSON. In the servants' quarters of the house is a museum of childhood: NICHOLAS TUCKER explores the fantasy world within, complete with mouseholes. an authentic Victorian classroom, a chimney smaller visitors can crawl up and, at its centre, a Fairytale Quest, relating the storv of Beauty and the Beast.
