The average family watches
35 hours of television a week.
Ninety-seven per cent of British homes own a set; nearly half have at least two. We are used to acquiring information and being entertained in this way - but what does this habit do to family life? Does it draw families closer together through shared experiences and provide the basis for conversation and debate? Or does it isolate each family member and make an active social life less attractive?
Joanna Kaye has been talking to families with different approaches to viewing and finding out what happens when one family of avid viewers gives up their sets to another family which never watches.
