Tomorrow's World

on BBC One London

Vivienne Parry meets Professor Alain Carpentier, a French heart surgeon, who has pioneered a new heart valve operation that could make open heart surgery a thing of the past. By guiding a tiny camera inside the heart through a small incision, he uses keyhole surgery to repair the damaged valve. Patients recover in days instead of months. Also tonight Craig Doyle reveals the army's answer to rivers that stand in their way: the instant bridge that can span 60 metres in just 20 minutes. With Howard Stableford and Shahnaz Pakravan.
