'Newry'
Norman E. Williams
The Newry football club has been in existence for sixteen years, and its story will be told in this contribution to the ' Irish League at Home' series tonight. Probably its most bitter disappointment was its defeat by Belfast Celtic in the Irish Cup Final in the season 1937-38.
Four times the two teams fought for the trophy. In Belfast they drew at Celtic Park, they drew again at
Newry, they drew a third time at Celtic Park, and finally Newry lost after a truly gallant fight on their ground by 5 goals to 2.
Newry's ground is one of the most beautiful in Ireland ; it commands a superb view of the lovely Carlingford Lough and the Mountains of Mourne.
