From Switzerland: Heinz Stettler, 17 stone; brakeman of the 1982 World Champion four-man bobsleigh team.
From Great Britain: Geoff Capes, 23 stone; Highland Games athlete, the current title holder and Britain's Strongest Man 1983.
From Holland: Cees de Vreugd, 20 1/2 stone; powerlifter and the current Netherlands Champion title holder.
Simon Wulfse, 17 stone; last year's runner-up and Holland's Strongest Man 1982.
From Scotland: Jack Hynd, 19 stone: Scottish Champion Olympic lifter and at 41, the oldest man in the contest.
From Austria: Franz Bierbaum, 18 stone; rock lifter and current holder of the Vienna Grand Prix.
From Iceland: Jon Pall Sigmarsson, 18 stone; A powerlifter, Viking 82 Champion and at 23, the youngest man in the contest.
