The Chocolate Kiddies
In May 1925, a troupe of black musicians, singers and dancers embarked on the SS Arabic from New York to Hamburg. This was the start of a great musical adventure, the repercussions of which would be felt throughout European music.
Tony Staveacre explores the archives for tracks of the "Chocolate Kiddies", and talks to two musicians who were there: Garvin Bushell and Doc Cheatham.
