The arts in action
Introduced by Humphrey Burton A White Wall in Alentejo
' Art is a culture at the service of the people's struggle.'
(Portuguese wall poster)
A revolution happens and a regime is overthrown.
What happens to the arts during. such an upheaval? Do they have an effect on the course of events? Are they transformed by the political changes?
This film was shot in Portugal last May, and looks at the situation of the arts in a changing society. It ranges from the international cultural scene of the Gulbenkian Foundation in Lisbon to the political murals on the white walls of Alentejo in the south.
