Presley

on BBC One London

/ Don Sing Like Nobody
The first of two programmes which celebrate and examine Elvis Presley 's life.
Through interviews with his wife, lovers, friends and colleagues, his story is told with the emphasis on discovering his true nature.
Elvis could hardly have had a worse start in life, born into the deep rural poverty of Mississippi during the Depression. Yet at 21 he was rich and famous, poised to take Hollywood by storm.
What had equipped him for this fast rise to stardom?
Those who knew him reveal that beyond his musical gift and facial beauty was another quality which affected people profoundly. His upbringing, with a mother who was always there for him, certain that he was extraordinary, fostered in Elvis the essential characteristics of any great performer - faith in himself and a yearning for love.
