John R. Allan, who securely established himself in the ranks of Scottish writers by his book 'Farmer's Boy', comes of Aberdeenshire farming stock, and now lives in the country near Stirling. After studying at the University of Aberdeen, he became a journalist but soon gave up office work for the freedom he loves.
