Roger Corman's celebrated screen adaptation of Edgar Allan Poe's classic tale of terror features Vincent Price at his macabre best as Prince Prospero. A disciple of Satan and the despotic ruler of a small 12th-century Italian province, the Prince revels in the corruption of innocence, the exercise of cruelty and the pursuit of his ungodly philosophy. While the Red Death rages in the surrounding villages Prospero holds a great feast at which all lusts will be unleashed. But the participants in the final grisly masque include one uninvited guest...
