It Takes a Stranger: 3: Charles Revis - a Pakistani in Gravesend

on BBC One London

A series of four programmes in which foreigners look at Britain.
As Community Relations Officer for Gravesend Charles Revis justly takes pride in the area's reputation for good relations with its ten per cent immigrant community, most of whom are Sikhs. Before he came to England Charles's image of the North Kent area was confined to his reading of Charles Dickens in India before the War. Now he revisits some of these locations, and introduces his multi-racial family, an example of successful 'coexistence' - a word he prefers to 'integration.'
