BBC Proms 2002

on BBC Radio 3

From the Royal Albert Hall, London.
Making their Proms debut, this Spanish orchestra brings Mendelssohn's violin concerto and a selection of national pieces reflecting diverse influences.
Catalan-born Roberto Gerhard's work, written after he settled in England, is rich with vibrant colours, complementing Falla's sensational score composed for Diaghilev's Ballets Russes. And Montsalvatge draws on West Indian rhythms, exploring the links between Catalonia and Cuba.
Presented by Louise Fryer.
