Designs for the projected Great Exhibition were first published and caused a furore in Parliament, the press and among the general public 130 years ago this summer.
Sir Hugh Casson , President of the Royal Academy. traces the history of this outcry and the Exhibition itself, with the aid of contemporary writings, songs and broad-sheet ballads.
