A Cameo of the Court of St. James's
by Robert de Meune.
Sea Shanties by Joseph Farrington and The Cardiff Station Choir
In this Cameo, Listeners will be introduced to Charles II., merriest of monarchs, as the central figure in a ball-room scene at the Court of St. James.
At the very outset, a 17th Century atmosphere is created by appropriate music and the conversation of the King's guests, which precedes a fanfare of trumpets, announcing his arrival.
Skilfully woven into the rich tapestry, on which the mind picture is hung, there is a series of rousing sea shanties that lead us from the royal palace into a rough foc's'le environment. It is an unusual blend of stately magnificence and boisterous merriment.
