Frank Harris , who had been a great figure in the world of letters, a friend and biographer of Oscar Wilde and Bernard Shaw, was an exile in Nice when Mr. Stokes visited him in the 1920s.
' He had to satisfy himself that I was not a policeman before he would open his mouth; but once he had opened it he shouted for an hour without stopping.'
