A series of six programmes
When the Roman legions invaded England they met a brave but easily demoralised enemy. For the Celtic tribes were no match for such a well-organised war machine, and their initial fierceness in battle soon gave way to complete disarray.
What those Celts were like, the sort of war engines they had to face, and how easily Rome conquered the British and held them in subjugation, is a source of constant interest to archaeologists.
