Fields of the Blessed by ANDREW TYRRELL and Seventeen-year-old Lily has never come to terms with her father's death by drowning while he was trying to save her life.
She leads an isolated life with her mother in postwar London. A Polish ex-soldier friend of her father comes to stay and he and Lily develop a close friendship, which grows into a complex emotional relationship.
