5/5. Hungary. In 1839 Liszt and Marie d'Agoult had theirthird child, a boy, in Rome.
Hearing of an appeal to raise money to put up a statue of Beethoven in Bonn, Liszt gave benefit concerts in Vienna, which largely paid forthe project. A deputation from Pest arrived with an invitation for him to return to Hungary. Liszt hadn't been back to his birthplace for 16 years, but when he got there he was received as a national hero.
