A Song for Europe

on BBC One London

Frances Ruffelle reprises the eight songs previewed over the last fortnight, one of which will be chosen tonight to represent the UK at the Eurovision Song Contest on 30 April.

Terry Wogan introduces the show, recorded in front of a studio audience, and then invites viewers to take part in a telephone vote. Results will be announced in a special programme at 10.20pm.

After making a name in stage musicals like Starlight Express and Les Miserables, Frances Ruffelle has been concentrating on a recording career; her single Love Parade was issued in February. "Although I'm known for theatre work," says Ruffelle, "I've really got a pop voice."
"You have to be a performer to put a song across, especially at Eurovision where there are so many gimmicks but all I'm really interested in is the quality of the songs."

The titles and telephone voting numbers are:
1. Waiting in the Wings ([number removed])
2. Slow boat ([number removed])
3. I Know These Things ([number removed])
4. Sink or Swim ([number removed])
5. Wrong Guy ([number removed])
6. One More Night([number removed])
7. His Love([number removed])
8. Lonely Symphony ([number removed])
The maximum cost of a call from anywhere in the UK is 10p.
